Battle of Brunete

Before the uprising, Brunete was a peaceful and quiet village dedicated to the cultivation of vines and planting vegetables or grains, everything that could allow its sandy soil and its extreme climate with harsh winters, and hot and dry summers. The famous Battle of Brunete joint operation developed from 6 until 25 July, 1937, in this town and others nearby west of Madrid during the Spanish Civil War. This offensive launched by the Army of the Republic was designed to reduce the pressure exerted by the rebel forces about Madrid and at the same time alleviate the situation on the north front line. The entire operation resulted in the deaths of about 20,000 soldiers and 17,000 Franco Republicans, the loss of about 60 aircraft Republicans and about 25 Franco, as well as the destruction or loss of a large amount of material. The human costs for both sides were enormous, being this battle considered as one of the bloodiest of the Civil War.

Cristo del Patrocinio

The celebrations of the Cristo del Patrocinio are held on
14 September, and depending on the years a few days before 14 and
after 14, bullfights are celebrated.
Typically, 13 in the night are held fireworks, "polvora" it said before.
The day of the Cristo (the way that we call here "14th September") a mass is celebrated and in the afternoon the procession through the
streets of the village take place; when they arrive to the Church's gate, the "Puja de las Andas del Trono" takes place, to introduce the Cristo
on shoulder into the Church. At night, there is a dance until dawn.

Questions with "like".

Hello, everybody. Maybe you remember one of the questions from your term test, the one including the word like. this word was at the end of the question you had to do and I told you that in this case like wasn't a verb. I have found a very good explanation that you can have a look at this site. It is from a very interesting program by the BBC in which they discuss grammar points and put a foreign student of English to the test. They are always short concrete grammar topics and they give very clear and simple explanations. You can even dowload the program to your MP3 players! Greetings.
